Thought it would be cool if everyone reccomend bands, preferably ones other people won't know, to expand all out horizons a bit. My pick is Breed 77, these guys fucking rule! Seen them live twice already and they blew me away both times. Met them last time too, they're really cool guys. They're a gibraltan group who relocated to england to get noticed. Warsaw/Joy Division: Widely considered to be one of the first post-punk and goth bands, fronted by the late Ian Curtis. After Curtis's suicide, Joy Division went on to become New Order.
Recommended tracks: "Shadowplay," "Transmission," "Isolation," "Glass," "Dead Souls," "Atmosphere"
Shellac: Super-producer Steve Albini's (Nirvana) band, heavy and dark.
Recommended track: "Prayer to God"
Modest Mouse: Former indie darlings who're now hitting it big in the mainstream. Very atmospheric, haunting music, dark lyrics.
Recommended tracks: "Convenient Parking," "Interstate 8," "Broke," "I came as a Rat," "Paper Thin Walls," "A Different City," "The Stars are Projectors," "Float On"
Built to Spill: Similar to Modest Mouse, but more guitar-heavy, less jangly.
Recommended tracks: "The Plan," "Randy Described Eternity," "Car," "Virginia Reel Around the Fountain," "Strange"
Interpol: Dark New York band often compared to Joy Division. Their music is more organic, and doesn't feature synths or much electronic tinkering (unlike Joy Division). Solid riffs and drumming.
Recommended tracks: "Untitled," "Obstacle 1," "NYC," "Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down," "The Specialist"
